| OverviewThomas ("Tom") J. Mew’s practice covers a broad range of employment law and litigation matters. Tom has defended employers in both individual and class action wage-and-hour, discrimination, and harassment litigation, as well as in arbitration and mediation. In addition, he represents fiduciaries, benefit plans, and employers in employee benefits litigation. Tom also regularly advises employers on employment contracts, releases, and restrictive covenant issues.
Tom was named one of the Georgia legal community's "Rising Stars" for 2006, 2007 and 2009.
Tom was a law clerk to the Hon. Herschel P. Franks of the Tennessee Court of Appeals and to the Honorable Harold L. Murphy of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. Representative Experience
- Represented a major telecommunications company in two class actions involving wage claims;
- Represented an investment consulting firm and individual defendants in an ERISA breach of fiduciary duty action in which plaintiffs initially sought over $120,000,000.00. Obtained partial summary judgment and tried remaining issues in bench trial to fully favorable result;
- Represented a major telecommunications company in defense of ADEA collective action (resolved by settlement);
- Represented an early education and childcare provider in employment discrimination action. Obtained summary judgment which was affirmed on appeal;
- Represented a major telecommunications company in ADA discrimination action and obtained summary judgment. Plaintiff’s subsequent appeal was dismissed;
- Successful defense of numerous employee benefit claims
