Work Assignments

Projects are assigned from Litigation and Corporate practice groups, as well as specific areas within those practices. In past years, summer associates have had opportunities to work on tasks within Securities, Broker-Dealer, Employment Law, Antitrust, Tax, General Litigation, Mergers & Acquisitions, Real Estate, and the list goes on. The Summer Program Coordinator will work closely with every Summer Associate on the distribution of work projects. As the Summer Associate continues to build relationships with attorneys throughout the firm, attorneys may contact the Summer Associate directly to work on a specific project.

Summer Associates have numerous opportunities to participate in interesting work related “field trips” throughout the summer, including watching opening statements or closing arguments of a trial; observing witnesses being examined in court; attending client meetings, closings, appellate arguments, depositions, mediations, and arbitrations; as well as participating in significant conferences or calls related to the work projects the Summer Associate is handling.

Summer Associates are also encouraged to assist with a variety of pro bono projects that our attorneys may be working on during the summer. To further the firm’s pro bono efforts, Rogers & Hardin participates in the Charles Wittenstein Summer Associate Research Program sponsored by the Anti-Defamation League. Traditionally, one or two summer associates are selected to participate on behalf of the firm. The summer associate will complete legal research on current civil rights legal issues that the Anti-Defamation League is working on and which they select as relevant topics for the program in that particular year. The Summer Associate will attend an orientation and opening reception with participating law firms and other summer associates. At this reception the program is explained in further detail and the Summer Associate's assigned topics are announced. A closing reception is held later in the summer where participating Summer Associates are recognized and given the opportunity to present their research and findings in a short oral presentation.

The expectation is that approximately 40 to 60 hours will be spent on researching and producing a memo on the assigned topic over the course of approximately six to seven weeks. If selected to participate in this program, the Summer Associate will work on the project in conjunction with other matters assigned from lawyers at the firm. Participation in this program will increase the Summer Associate’s exposure to the Atlanta legal community.
